Nog 20 minuten voordat mijn trein gaat. Ik plof neer naast een vrouw die fanatiek met haar vingers op haar iPad drukt. Aan mijn andere zijde zit een man naar zijn Macbook te staren. En ik? Ik kijk op mijn bijna lege iPhone met nog 2% batterij. En nu ik die hele reis naar huis nog moet maken, baal ik daar ontzettend van. Een leven zonder iPhone? Ik kan het mij eerlijk gezegd niet meer voorstellen.

In deze doelloze minuten realiseer ik mij hoe belangrijk Steve Job is geweest. Of eigenlijk nog steeds is. Niet alleen op het gebied van technologie, maar voor onze hele manier van leven. Dat mijn vader gisteravond naar ieder nieuwsprogramma keek en bij de eerste seconde dat meneer Jobs in beeld kwam bewonderd uitriep: “Daar heb je hem!” wil eigenlijk al heel wat zeggen.
